The SCAPA One Day Workshop is a professional development opportunity designed specifically for Activity Professionals and Life Enrichment staff. Attendees will enjoy a day of education, networking, and idea-sharing while earning continuing education hours. This year's workshop focuses on practical, ready-to-use programming ideas that can be implemented immediately to increase resident engagement and enhance quality of life.

Managing the Care of Adults with Dementia – Caring for adults with dementia presents unique challenges that require specialized knowledge and compassionate approaches. In this workshop, you'll gain practical strategies for managing the day-to-day care of individuals with dementia, from understanding the stages of the disease to navigating behavioral changes. We will explore effective communication techniques, safety considerations, and methods for enhancing the quality of life for those living with dementia. Additionally, participants will learn about caregiver support resources and the importance of self-care. Join us to deepen your understanding and improve the care and support you provide to loved ones or clients with dementia.  

Promoting Optimal Well-Being Through Self-Care Strategies –  This session is designed to help you understand the critical role of self-care in maintaining physical, mental, and emotional health. Explore a variety of self-care techniques, including mindfulness, stress management, healthy lifestyle habits, and relaxation practices. Learn how to create a personalized self-care plan that fits your unique needs and lifestyle, and discover how regular self-care can enhance your overall well-being and resilience. Join us to prioritize your well-being and build a sustainable self-care routine that supports a balanced, fulfilling life.

Making Exercise Fun– This session is designed to equip instructors with the tools and confidence to effectively prepare exercise classes to participants. Through a hands-on approach, we will learn how to create age-appropriate and accessible class outlines that prioritize safety, mobility, strength, balance, and overall wellness across all levels of care. Participants will explore practical strategies for designing simple yet effective exercises that emphasize inclusivity, adaptability, and enjoyment, empowering individuals to stay active while meeting their unique physical needs.

Mastering the Art of Recruiting, Retaining, and Recognizing Volunteers – Discover practical strategies to recruit passionate volunteers, nurture their growth, and celebrate their impact. This session explores effective methods for recruiting the right volunteers, keeping them engaged through meaningful support, and recognizing their contributions in ways that inspire long‑term commitment.
